Humanity is stronger than distance
Hand in Hand started with two people and a car full of blankets. Today we are 428 volunteers and 2,418 regular donors — but the core is the same: a hand reaching out, and one that grasps.
We didn't build an organisation. We just tried to be decent people — and then something grew up around us.
It started on a winter's night in 2018
In December 2018 Aisha Rahmani met a family outside the Central Station. They had no winter jackets. She went home, called her friend Ahmed, and the next morning they drove around with a car full of blankets and warm clothes.
They didn't stop there. Within three months they had built a network of 40 volunteers — people tired of feeling powerless who wanted to do something. They founded Hand in Hand in July 2019.
Today we work in 17 countries, but we have never forgotten the starting point: that help is concrete. That help means walking out the door. And that help only works when it reaches the person.
Things we never compromise on
Four principles that guide everything — from how we use your money to how we treat the people we help.
Direct help
We work without intermediaries. Every donation goes as directly as possible to the person or family who needs it.
Full openness
87% of every krone goes to the cause. You can always see where the money went — our accounts are public.
Dignity first
We treat people as people — not as projects or statistics. Help without humiliation.
Local roots
We always work with local partners — people who live in the area, know the problems and stay after we leave.
